Upgrade Jira Software Datacenter Licence v5.2.4.1 to Latest version

I want to upgrade Jira Software Datacenter Licence v5.2.4.1 to Latest  version.

I done the installation of atlassian-jira-software-7.12.

 While installation it is asking me to provide license key and backup restored path.

can i provide existing license key of my production server which is already running.

it will not impact my existing running setup. I am bit confuse.

You do not need to upgrade the licence.  A licence gives you the right to use any version of the software released before the end of the licence, they're not tied to versions of the software.

However, if you are running an upgrade of an existing install, there's a couple of problems with what you've said here.

You should not be installing 7.12.  You should be upgrading 5.2 to 6.4, then to 7.0, then to 7.12.  This is probably why you are being asked for a key - an upgrade would see your existing licence and use it, but you're doing an install, which needs to be given a key (and won't upgrade anything)

Just one confusion, do i need to restore database or XML backup will restore everything.

you can just use the licence you already have on production server, it's fine as you are in the process of upgrading the instance.

If i use same key and installed new server, it will not impact my old running server ? 

my up-gradation is done and testing is done , i just need to shutdown the old server.
