Update custom date fields after selecting option from dropdown(single select)

Hi,

For eg. There is one field on transaction screen "status" [single select dropdown] contains A, B,C,D status.

There are Date fields associate with status field like A Date, B Date and so on.

After selecting option "A", the "A date" field should get updated with current date. later when select option "B","B Date" field should updated like so.

I'm trying to write behavior for this but it's not working properly. It capture date when select options . but the problem is when I open the transaction screen It does not show previous date rather it shows current date. Which is not good approach. Date fields associated with status should preserve the date when status are selected. It may not change if the field is not null.
