Update all a (portfolio) Parent custom field when a custom field is updated on its child issue

Hi all,

I am trying to do something very similar to this: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-questions/Update-all-sub-tasks-custom-field-when-a-custom-field-is-updated/qaq-p/892414

but where the opposite happens; when a custom field [checkboxes] is updated on a child issue, I want the same field to also be updated on its (portfolio) parent issue. Unfortunately the 'For Parent' component of automation for JIRA does not work in this context so I assume I will need a listener like what was suggested in the above referenced question.
