Update Due Date

Right now, due date it is required field that needs to be populated by the user, is there a way to update the field when the user mark his action as a complete? In our workflow, due date is equal to complete date, meaning when the user change the status of his actions to complete it needs to remember to update the due date field with the date on when the action was completed.

Use a validator on the workflow to check that the due date was changed in the "complete issue" transition

What is the due date wasnt change it will ask the user to change it? ( meaning, not able to save the change)

 

Is there a way to automaticlly update the due field based on the date that the user move the action to "Complete Issue" ? If this is possible, I can go ahead and hide the due date field and grab the information when the user update the issue. Doable?
