Understanding Work Log Permissions in Jira: Effect of "Work on Issues" Being Disabled

I'm trying to understand the relationship between the "Work on Issues" permission and work log-related permissions in Jira. Specifically, if the "Work on Issues" permission is disabled but the "Edit Worklogs" permission is enabled, should users still be able to edit work logs?

As the name suggests, the "Work on Issues" permission seems essential for managing work logs in Jira. If this permission is disabled but other related permissions, like "Edit Worklogs" or "Delete Worklogs," are enabled, should users still be restricted from editing or deleting work logs? Does disabling "Work on Issues" inherently restrict work log actions, or should these permissions function independently? Looking for clarification on how these permissions interact. Thanks!

Hi @testing2 and welcome to the Community!

As described in project permissions documentation, the work on issues permissions allows people to interact with the time tracking field (spent / remaining) in a project:

Disabling this permission does indeed impact the permissions to edit or delete existing time tracking records, since these actions need interaction with these fields.

Since the documentation is not 100% explicit about this, I tested it out and can confirm this is how it works.

Hope this helps!
