I am on the administration / Version & Licensing page of my server. I currently have 7.3.1 installed and I want to upgrade to 7.10. When I click the Download button next to Jira Core, I am told that the current version is compatible. I then get the ability to Get the Installer. When I click that I get a Windows executable. I run on Linux and so I am confused. I tried to get a Linux download for 7.10, but I got an "obr" file extension that I cannot find any instructions on how to use.
Please help. This is has already eaten up far too much of my time. Maintenance was supposed to my be simple. I have searched all over and yet i still cannot determine what to do.
Hi John,
You can't update Jira Core directly in the web interface of Jira. Instead you will need to stop Jira, and then run through one of the upgrade methods explained in Upgrading Jira applications. For these upgrades on a Linux environment, you are going to need to select the .bin/Linux executable, or one of the archive files (.zip or .tar.gz).
I would recommend the upgrading Jira with a fallback method. It takes longer to complete, but considering how complicated Jira can be it is the safer option when dealing with upgrades.
You can use either download here, but you don't need to do both. If your Jira also uses software, select that option and it will safe you some time later one. If you don't use Jira Software here, then just select the Jira Core download installation package instead.
I think the suggested instructions could have been a lot more specific. Better yet, it would have been nice if the Install click on the web page would have worked completely in the first place.
I eventually got through the install. I had to reset all ownerships to jira:jira when I was finished. Many were root after the install was initially done. That seemed to be a mistake.
The worse part was when I finished and successfully got into JIRA and was immediately informed that I had to upgrade my "old" Postgres 9.2 database instance. That upgrade was a nightmare and it took me 4 hours to complete. While I know that this is not your area, getting some help references on your pages would have helped.
