Hello @Mohit Radadiya ,

Good day! Welcome to Atlassian Community :)

I would request you to check the following things:

  • Do you have "manage sprint' permission on the space where the sprint is located?
  • Can you check the board filter and see if that query includes one space or multiple? If multiple, you need to make sure you have manage sprint permission on all the spaces mentioned in the query.

Few reference documents:

Thank you

Hi @Shalini Pradhan Good day, thank you for your response.
I have already verified both of the points you mentioned:

1. Manage Sprint permission
  • In the project permission scheme, the Manage Sprints permission is granted to:
    Space Role: Administrators
    Group: jira-software-users
    Application access: Jira Software

I am part of the Administrator role, so the Manage Sprint permission is available to me.
2. Board filter scope
  • The board filter is scoped to a single project only

The filter does not include multiple spaces/projects.
Since permissions and filter scope are correctly configured, this does not appear to be a permission-related issue.

Looking forward to your guidance.

Hi @Mohit Radadiya ,

Good day! Thank you for the update :)

This would need more investigation. I would request you to open a support ticket here: https://support.atlassian.com/contact/ so that an engineer can look into it

Hey @Mohit Radadiya

Good day!

Adding to the inputs shared by @Shalini Pradhan already, please verify that you have the below permissions in the project (space):

  • Manage Sprints
  • Edit Issues
  • Schedule Issues
  • Resolve Issues

If you have all these permissions and the issue persists, please raise a support ticket.

Thanks!

@Mohit Radadiya Hi,

In Jira, being a project administrator alone is not enough to start or close sprints. The error clearly means your user does not have the “Manage Sprints” permission. This permission is granted via Project Permissions, usually through the Administrator or Scrum Master–type role in the project’s permission scheme. Ask a Jira admin to go to Project settings → Permissions, find Manage Sprints, and ensure your user (or your project role) is added there. Once that permission is granted, you will be able to start and complete sprints. The hash code shown is only for Atlassian support troubleshooting and does not affect the fix.

Hi @Mohit Radadiya

Are you also a board admin for this project? Go to the Board-> click on ... -> Board Settings and check if you are listed under the board administrator.

If yes, can you check if you are able to start an empty sprint.

Regards
Rajat

In permission schema of this specific project, kindly check if you have Manage sprint permission. if you dont have please ask the project admin to provide you, so that you can start or close the sprint

I already have the Administrator role, but I’m still unable to start or complete the sprint.
