I use kanban with backlog enabled and am unable to add tasks in a story and then further split tasks into subtasks. I am currently on a free trial- will I need to upgrade to be able to do these?

Hi Ananda,

the Jira issue hierarchy is pretty easy and flat, you will be able to add sub-tasks to your story but not tasks to a story like the parent-child relationship issues have with sub-tasks in Jira in general. You should try using issue links (and maybe creating more suitable issue link types for you) to connect your stories to their tasks.

Best, Max

Hi Ananda,

are you using a so-called next-gen project? Because this kind of project differ from the classic projects in Jira and currently don't offer the second layer of sub-tasks. But reading through this post in the community, sub-tasks are mentioned as "coming soon". So if you currently have to and want to work with sub-tasks a "regular" software development will offer more features but comes with some administrative effort as well, which you avoid by using next-gen projects.

Best, Max
