Trying to link two instances of Jira using Unito

JJK August 19, 2021

I'm trying to link two separate instances of Jira cloud using Unito, both under my organization, both of which I have admin privileges on. I need to create issues and track progress in one project, yet be able to assign tasks to team members in both environments to resolve.

In Unito, I'm getting the error on "Ready to Launch your flow":

"Administer Jira" permission(s) missing from Jira sync account.

Where might I find these permission(s)?

Resolved with the help of Unito.io! You need to ensure you have all the permissions for the specific project you're looking to integrate.

  • go Projects under Jira settings
  • then on the project click on the 3 little dots at the far right on the line, then select Project settings in the dropdown
  • then click on Access under Project settings in the sidebar
  • then finally click on Add people button and add yourself to the list, and change your role to Administrator

Thank you for sharing the solution.

I think Unito.io should change their error message then to something like

"Administer project" permission(s) missing from Jira sync account.

That would contain the correct Jira terms so that you (and everyone else) is more directed towards finding the correct permissions.

I'm not an expert about Unito, but the error message sounds like you need to grant your sync account the "Administer Jira" permission. This is a global permission in Jira and allows that sync account to almost do everything in Jira.

You can find it via the cog icon in the top right corner, choose system and in the menu on the left Global permissions. See also these Atlassian docs for details.

PS: If you haven't yet decided on using Unito, you also might want to give another issue sync app a try. I'm part of the team behind Backbone Issue Sync and also happy to discuss your use case further.

There's something I'm missing here. When I go to Global Permissions, my sync account is active in both 'adminstrators' and 'jira-administrators', but I'm still seeing the error. Atlassian docs are not helping me understand why this isn't working.
