Trying to get a date and insert it to another field

I am pulling the date of the sprint for which an issue belongs (I get the response as an ArrayList value). However, all attempts to parse it out or otherwise use it (so that it can be inserted into a Start Date date field in the same issue) either fails because of datatype issues, or is null.

This one is driving folks nuts.
