Trying to change the authentication source to a new AD DC, but changes do not take effect

I triedd via the Jira UI to update teh user directory fotr authentication to a new domain controller. The change would not take effect, and I had to undo the changes to be sure users can still get in for now. Anyone know how to make the changes stick? I even restarted Jira and then rebooted the server to try, but nothing worked.
