Transferring license key

I need to move our Jira and Confluence Servers to a new host. I have found a useful guide for the actual migration process, but I just want to clarify the product key situation before I do anything.

First I need to install Jira and Confluence on the new server so that I can test the configuration, plugins and firewall etc. But it requires a license during the installation.

I can apparently do this so long as I only have one "Production" instance running.

So during the installation on the new server, how do I specify that it is a Dev version when importing the license? I'm concerned about importing the license and the Production server being disabled?

Kevin,

You can generate a development license that will allow you to install, test, and validate the instance with all the same functionality.  Once you are ready to move you can just swap the production and developer licenses on the two servers.  This way you can keep the old instance running for a short time just in case you need to go back to it for some reason.
