Tracking velocity accross stories AND tasks that are not sub tasks

Hi there

I am about to start a project using JIRA, and had planned to create Stories for Dev work, and Stand Alone Tasks for all other work (such as PM tasks, End2Ed test cases, Perforamnce test cases etc). So my question is if I can calculate Velocity accross tasks and stories, or just stories and their sub-tasks?

Velocity is calculated on all issues on the board that are at the level of the story (not epics or sub-tasks).  It does not care if they are called bugs, tasks, penguins, it just looks at all the standard issue types and looks for the field you are using for the estimation statistic.
