How does Jira calculates progress for subTask IssueTypes?

i see that for many sub-tasks, progress is 0 even if the subtask is in Done statusCategory.

Couple of my observations are:

1. If there is no effort entered against sub-task (even if RemainingEffort is 0), then progress = 0%. Is it mandatory to have actual effort logged against sub-task in order to calculate progress.

2. if Remaining Effort > 0, then also progress is not showing 100% even if statusCategory = Done.

Progress is the actual time (or effort) you've logged to a task, or subtask in this case, divided by the estimated time (or effort) you've previously assigned to that task. If no estimation has been made then the progress bar won't fill. If ther's an estimation but no actual work has been logged then the result of that operation is 0, plain and simple.
