Timing out when we are trying to get to Statuses page in JIRA

From JIRA Administration tab or from workflows or be it any place where you can click on Statuses link, it prompts to enter the password. After entering the correct password and click continue, JIRA is not taking us to Statuses page and instead it is timing out after a while. In the past it used to take a long time to get to the statuses page after entering the password but now it is completely timing out. We have lot of existing statuses. Due to this issue our users are not able to create new statuses and it is blocking them from creating new workflows and making changes to existing workflows. Your quick attention to this will be greatly appreciated.

What is your JIRA version? The performance has been increased in JIRA 5.0
