Timeline exceeding limits

Timeline Error: Our Jira timeline isn’t available because the board filter contains over 500 epics.

Filter Limitations: Unable to filter the timeline directly after encountering the error.

Board Display: The board shows issues, not epics, making it difficult to manage the timeline.

Filter Application: Difficulty in applying custom filters to the timeline as it is inaccessible.

Is there a way to add a filter to the board so the timeline will display again ? (I can use filters to display epics, using the filter section, but can't seem to apply this to the timeline/ add an overarching filter for the project so that the timeline displays)

This is a team-managed project - I have looked at the following page but there doesn't seem to be an option for

"Issues and filters Advanced search."

Board filter exceeds issue limits

The timeline view of Jira can only show 5,000 issues at once with no more than 500 being at the parent level.

The timeline automatically excludes issues if they were:

  • moved to the Done status category more than a year ago

  • moved to the Done status category, and it has a due date from more than a year ago

To only display issues created within the last year:

  1. From your project, select Issues and filters Advanced search.

  2. In the search bar, enter this query, but replace:

    1. NAME with the name of your project

    2. DATE with the dates you’d like to focus on

1 project = NAME AND created >= DATE AND created <= DATE

Hi @Neil Sloan

This topic you found applies to company managed projects.

You require to use a company managed project.

These board option are not available on boards in team managed projects.
