I'm trying to make a dashboard for my team but it doesn't show in the "board" dropdown. Why is this? Is there a change needed in the board configuration or in my permissions?

Hmm, I guess check the underlying board filter to see if you have access to the filter. Outside of that, I am out of ideas and would suggest you submit a support ticket to Atlassian.
