Task order in Backlog is different than task order in Sprint

Anastasia Kim February 17, 2018

Hi there,

I use backlog to plan next sprints, I change tasks order in backlog when planning. But every time I start another sprint the tasks order changes.

Is there any way to fix it?

@Anastasia Kim, I hadn't played w/ this for awhile so went and ran a test and here is what I can say based upon my quick test.

The planning board allows you to stack-rank issues in the backlog and in a planning sprint. Once you start a sprint the ranking that was setup during the planning portion will be honored when the sprint is started. This is what I would have expected. Now, that comes w/ a caveat. There are things that could supersede the ranking at least in display including configuration of your scrum board, e.g. swimlanes. But if you have no swimlanes your ranking should be the same as set during the planning.

Given it seems to work for me just fine I think we will need a bit more info from you. Can you elaborate? Could you run a similar to as what I did below?

Here was my test:

  1. Created 4 tasks: 1 = Medium, 2 = Highest, 3 = Low, 4 = High
  2. I ranked my Backlog: 4, 1, 2, 3
  3. I created a sprint, moved all issues to the sprint and ranked: 2, 4, 3, 1
  4. I started the sprint and the ranking was preserved

Sorry, it looks like this was fixed.

Thanks a lot!
