Target start and target end (date fields from Portfolio) treated as empty fields even they are not

Running JQL:

"Target start" is empty

Expected result:
Only issues where the Target end-field is empty

Actual result:

Issues with target end date is also included

Anyone else experiencing the same issue with the date fields from Portfolio for Jira?

I experienced this exact same problem a couple of days ago.  A re-index of the individual project cured it for me.  I would suggest a full system re-index if you are able to do that.
