Subtickets in Kanban board

Deleted user September 20, 2018

Hi,

I know there are several posts regarding this already, but cannot grasp that Atlassian don't have a way of visualizing subtickets on a Kanban board... To force this, I have to edit both board filter, as well as all swimlane filters. This does just not seem all that modern.

How do you guys solve this?

Hello @[deleted]

Could you please elaborate on the problem with some screenshots, because in the Kanban backlog its possible to see the sub-tasks under the parent story.

In the Scrum Backlog it's not possible to see the child-sub-tassk but what you can do is to add the "sub-task" field in the card layout of the backlog view and that way the sub-tasks issue keys will be visible in the parent issues in the scrum backlog as well.

Hi,

thanks for answering! I can see what you mean, I tried at home on my own small Jira instance, and indeed, subtasks are indented slightly under the parent on the board.

This however, is not the case at work. In that board we have three projects, where 2 of them show this effect, but the third won't. It is because of that I have to modify the boards filter. When I got it to show as I wanted, all three project displaying their eventual subtasks, the parent was still displayed as a single card. That was when I thought of the swimlane filters, but that did not work well at all. I might have had my share of bad Karma, but will try again tomorrow.

I enabled the function you suggested, to show the subtask-id's on the card, that was very useful. But the ticket is now shown in two different swimlanes, in two different ways??screenshot_jira_subticket_standard - Copy.PNG

Hello @[deleted]

You should have added the "sub-task" field only and only in the backlog section of the "card layout" configuration section, I think you have added it in the "Active Sprints" section and thus you see it twice.

Yes I did. I corrected that and what happens now is almost the same. The one under "Everything Else" is unchanged, and the parent issue does no longer indicate any subtickets.

Would it be possible to have the parent issue indicating any subtickets and not showing the one under "Everything Else"? We use everal swimlanes to organize our issues and subtickets aparently makes these filters malfunction, thus displaying under ""Everything Else"...

For having sub-ticks under parent tickets, you would need to have swimlanes per stories, in this way the child tasks will be listed under the stories.

Ok. That is not an option for us though, but good to know! Thanks :)
