Hi @Lisa Robinson ,

Are you using a team managed project or company managed?

Hi Manoj - thanks for coming back to me.  Company managed I think but not sure, how do I tell?

You can tell the difference between company-managed and team-managed projects by going to your project sidebar. In team-managed projects, the bottom-left of the sidebar says you're in a team-managed project. If the bottom-left of your project sidebar doesn't have this message, you're in a company-managed project.

Thanks - in which case I'm in a Teams managed project.

For a Team Managed Scrum project Sub-tasks will be visible on the board only when the Group By option is set to Sub-tasks.

If you have that setting and see some sub-tasks but not others that you believe should be visible, we need to explore why they are not visible.

1. Are the parent issues for the missing sub-tasks assigned to an Active Sprint? Sub-tasks are not items that can be assigned to Sprints as independent work. They are included in sprints to which their parent issue is assigned.

2. Do you have any Quick Filters enabled? That could cause the Sub-tasks to be hidden.

Because Sub-tasks cannot be assigned to Sprints independently from their parent issues, they will not be visible as line items/cards in the Backlog screen. You will have to click on an issue that includes sub-tasks to open the view for that issue to see its sub-tasks.

Hi - thanks, yes I can use the Group by Subtask filter but ideally would prefer the Group by Epic view so you can see what Epic tasks belong to.

Very helpful

Thanks

Lisa

There's no way to do that - sub-tasks are part of their parent issue, and only belong to an Epic as part of the parent item.

When people are looking at a plan, if they're looking at the Epic level, there's no need for them to see sub-tasks, and if they're looking at the issue level, they probably still don't need to see fragements of the issues.
