I have confirmed the following

  • Space is set up as Software development, Scrum & company managed
  • Jira – Estimation is set to Story points
  • Story points field configured to show on all screens (default screen, Scrum default issue screen, Scrum Bug Screen)

Result

  • Story points do not show up as a field on the backlog screen details when you click on a user story
  • And clicking on the drop down for story points on the backlog screen does not allow you to enter story points.

Hey Silvia,

Go to a work item, in the bottom right click on Configure and then verify the Sprint field is added under Context Fields, if not add it and then click save.

Now go back to the work item you just updated (or one of the same type, Story for example), click refresh, and it should appear now.

Thank you for taking time to reply

Yes, I did that.  It shows as added, but when I go back to the backlog, it does not show up in the details & I cannot access the column.

I also went to the board configuration & added the field to the card layout, but that didn't help either.

Went to space settings & checked the fields under work items to confirm that the story points field is set up to show up on the screens & it shows that it is set up for all screens

I am stumped.

Ok I might have found the solution, I misread your original comment.

So you are having issues seeing Story Points in your Backlog View, if that is correct then try the below.

Go to our Space (Project) > go to Backlog > click the settings button top right > under fields toggle on "Estimate" and it will show up.

Unfortunately, this does not work, since the field does not show up in the details, even though I have gone through configure from the individual work item (user story), configured the board and the space to enable story points.

Is there a way that I can send you a document with screenshots?

You can send screenshots here in a reply.

Might be good to see exactly where you are looking also.

Great information, thanks for the screenshots.

Let’s check a couple more things.

  • Is this a team managed or company managed project? You can check this by opening your project, and checking at the bottom left of your screen.
  • Can you share your board filter?
  • It seems like you’re an admin so you should be good, but it’s good to double check this, make sure you have edit issues permission for the project.
  • If this is a team managed project do this: Project settings > Features > Estimation > Story points > toggle on

Also while we continue to troubleshoot from this point on, if you have a subscription to Jira, I would recommend you also open an Atlassian Support case. Our answer might be in the above, but we are missing something so they will be a great help here also. We can still work on this though at the same time.

I figured it out.

When I did the import from a csv, the default must have been to import it as a feature.  (not a user story as it was before) Features do not have story points! (for obvious reasons)

Need to move each one from being feature to being a user story

Thanks for all your help
