Story point Estimates disappeared from the software project

The story points field disappeared in my project. I went to project settings and added the field back under "layout" but once the field was restored, it wiped all previous estimates. 

Is there somewhere that I can find the previous estimates?

Are you working with a Company Managed project or a Team Managed project? That information will be shown on the left at the bottom of the navigation panel.

There are two built-in "story points" fields.

One is named "Story Points" (notice the capital S and capital P). That field is used by Company Managed projects.

The other is named "Story point estimate" (notice the lower p and lower e). That field is used by Team Managed projects.

It is also possible that a Jira Administrator has created additional Global custom fields that have the same name, or a Team Managed Project Administrator has made additional Team Managed project-specific fields with the same name.

You can use the Advanced Issue Search, List View output to add columns for all available fields that have "story" or "points" in the field name to see which one contains the data for your issues.
