I need a report that shows me sprint burndown (based on original estimate) by Assignee for each Sprint. I see no way to do this. I also want the Sprint Burndown report to appear in my main reports page but I cannot modify the layout to make this happen. The closest I could get is creating a Workload Pie Chart Dashboard but I want to see everything I care about in one screen (not have to go to report for some things and dashboards for others). And the dashboard doesn't show me sprint burndown only total hours.
Hola Xenia,
I dug into this, and there are really two separate limitations here.
For the first part, Jira’s native Burndown Chart is at the board or sprint level. It doesn’t have an Assignee dimension that you can switch on to produce a separate burndown line for each person. Atlassian documents that the burndown is driven by the board’s saved filter and estimation settings, rather than by Assignee.
So, if you specifically need a historical burndown for each sprint and Assignee, I don’t see a native Jira Standard report that produces it accurately.
I also wouldn’t try to simulate it with one board per person. Since the assignee can change during a sprint, filtering a board by the current Assignee can give you a misleading historical picture of who owned the work at each point in time.
There is, however, a useful native option if your goal is to put the regular Sprint Burndown somewhere more visible. Jira Cloud has a built-in Sprint Burndown dashboard gadget.
You can create or edit a dashboard and add the Sprint Burndown Gadget.
That gadget uses the Scrum board and sprint and follows the board’s estimation configuration, including time-based estimation when the board is configured that way.
Atlassian documents the available dashboard gadgets here.
So while you can’t customize Jira’s built-in Reports page layout to pin the Burndown report there, you can create a dashboard and place the Sprint Burndown Gadget exactly where you want it.
If you want a native approximation of the assignee view alongside it, I’d also look at the Workload Pie Chart gadget. It can use a saved filter and time-tracking fields, such as Original Estimate, to show how the estimated workload is distributed between assignees. It isn’t a burndown over time, but paired with the Sprint Burndown Gadget, it can give you both the sprint trend and the current distribution of estimated work by person without adding a Marketplace app.
If the historical “burndown per assignee” is the hard requirement, though, that’s where you’d need reporting beyond Jira Standard’s native reports.
Thanks,
James
Hi Xenia – Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
Jira’s native Sprint Burndown is board/sprint-level, so it can use Original Estimate when time estimation is enabled, but it doesn’t provide a built-in breakdown by Assignee.
If you need a true burndown by assignee, you’ll likely need a reporting app such as eazyBI or another Marketplace reporting tool. Atlassian also points to third-party tools for more advanced/customized burndown reporting.
Regarding the main Reports page, the available reports and layout are predefined by Jira, so you can’t currently customize that page to pin the Sprint Burndown where you want it.
If the goal is mainly visibility, an alternative would be to build a dashboard for the team and place the relevant sprint/assignee reporting there.
