I work for a school district and we are running Solarwinds Web Helpdesk v12.6 and I would very much like to get an integration setup between WHD and Jira (Cloud version) Software to interact with each other.
Ex: If client opens a ticket ins WHD an issue is created in Jira. And if the status in WHD or in Jira changes that status is updated in either platform...
If no one has done this then maybe a nudge towards a resource would be appreciated, other than have you looked at APIs. My background is python and networking, and is very very light in API hooks/REST commands. Like what API or article should one start with?

Your solution looks doable for customers with the full software sweet SWSD. My district only has the Web Helpdesk product. There is a menu option for integrations but there is no Jira in the list.

In that case you may want to look for an iPaaS application like tray.io or Workato to integrate them using the REST API. I also found this app in the Marketplace, not sure it it only works with SWSD or also with WHD.

Solarwinds has an integration that you can set up that doesn't require any scripting, take a look at SWSD's documentation for the integration.
