Software maturity is measured by the number of open cases over time.

So I need a chart as below (this shows a project that is just cranking up so very immature code base) that is configurable  so I can ask, by project, by a range of milestones, by area (our projects typically have 5 or more areas that tickets can be classified as) and a time range (typically the entire project).

How you do that in jira?

Hello @Randy Lee

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Jira does not have a reporting engine for creating completely customized reports.

Have you reviewed the built in Space level reports for Software Spaces?

What you showed looks similar to the Cumulative Flow Diagram.

If you have an Enterprise level subscription then you have access to Atlassian analytics for reporting.

There are also numerous reporting apps available from third party vendors in the Atlassian Marketplace

Some of these might be coerced into being somewhat adequate.  I'll have to look more closely at them, filter out the buzzwords and see where they can be actually useful.

Burndown charts are plenty useful but not so much when they are tied to the concept of sprints.  I need those for milestones (what younger people call epics).

Let me look more closely at these and see if I can make any of them work.
