Smart Links are hit and miss

I have many pages where I simply paste the link to a Jira filter and I get smart link options. This seems to be very sporadic, sometimes works, sometimes does not. For the life of me, I cannot get this link to become a smart link where I can then choose the embed option etc.

I am using the /link function. It just ends up as a "plain" link that I can click on. No card function, no inline function, no embed function.

I cannot include a screenshot for company privacy reasons.

I sometimes get Jira Legacy which I do not want. For some reason, external links (outside of the Atlassian environment) seem to work fine. I can't figure out the logic of why it sometimes works and why it sometimes does not. I am not doing anything different on my end.

Hi @Jo-Lee Bertrand I took a quick look on Atlassian's Jira Site and found JRACLOUD-94053 which sounds very similar to the work item you reported.

Feel free to vote on it and watch it for updates.

If that's not it, feel free to have your System Administrator open an issue with Atlassian Support to dig deeper in to it.

Here's another Atlassian doc explaining why smart links may not be available for certain URLs: https://support.atlassian.com/platform-experiences/docs/smart-links-from-jira-and-other-products/

An excerpt from that page:

Why some URLs don’t convert into Smart Links

There are several reasons why some URL types from listed apps may not convert to Smart Links:

  • Unsupported URLs: The URL type might not be supported by Smart Link resolvers.

  • Environment mismatch: URLs from staging environments cannot be resolved for security reasons.

  • Access permissions: If the user does not have the necessary permissions to view the content of the link, it may not unfurl. This may also require the user to re-authenticate with the non-Atlassian app.

  • Admin permissions: Some applications, such as Microsoft Sharepoint or OneDrive, need global permissions set by the Microsoft admin.

  • Content restrictions: Some links may not unfurl if there are restrictions and the linked content is not publicly accessible.

  • Technical issues: There might be technical issues or bugs in the object resolver service that prevent certain links from unfurling.

  • User preferences: Users may have set their default link view to URL instead of Smart Links or block-listed certain domains.

Morning @Jo-Lee Bertrand,

Confluence allows formatting changes when the pasted link is treated as a Smart Link, and the available formatting depends on the link’s domain, supported preview type, user permissions, and the user’s link preferences.

Do smart links generate for any links pasted with that domain? Or is it just specific ones?

Here's an Atlassian doc on that: https://support.atlassian.com/confluence-cloud/docs/insert-links-and-anchors/#Smart-links

Thanks!

Brandon

It's incredibly sporadic. All the links I am wanting to use are saved Jira filters. I am not doing anything different. I have reviewed all of the articles above and none resolve the issue. It's not permissions based etc.
