Setting up the IMAP Mail server fails with AuthenticationFailedException: Read timed out

Shyamala. Dhakshinamurthy May 22, 2019

I tried setting up IMAP server for JIRA as per the instructions giving by one of your tech support members in an email to the business analyst on creating issues from email.  We use the hosted office for mail and hence specified the hostname as outlook.office365.com and tried to test with no success.   Error reads as AuthenticationFailedException: Read timed out.   Set the timeout to 0 for infinite.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Koren,

Thanks for contacting Atlassian Support!

To achieve what you're looking for, you can add Exchange as a POP / IMAP mail Mail Server on Jira, then create a Mail Handler to process the e-mails on Jira to create new tickets or add comments for your project. We have the following documentation with each step you'll need to take:

If you have any questions about that, or if you face any issues when performing this configuration, please do not hesitate to contact us back here.

Best Regards,
Rodrigo Sogari Rosa [Atlassian]

@Shyamala. Dhakshinamurthy

Hi Shyamala

did you check that access to outlook.office365.com (and i think the port is 993 )

is possible from your jira server, just to ensure that you are not blocked by a firewall rule etc.
