Setting a subdomain to Jira cloud reaches unavailable page

Those new to the Atlassian Community have posted less than three times. Give them a warm welcome!
I have a domain example.com, and now want to link to my Jira Cloud instance (example.atlassian.com) via a subdomain.
I have set the corresponding CNAME DNS entry, but whenever I try to open my subdomain, it leads me to an Atlassian page, that says my cloud site is currently unavailable.
The problem is, that it's not *currently* unavailable, but rather always. I have tested this yesterday and today, and it doesn't work.
The site is however available under the standard example.atlassian.com URL
