Set a Jira Expressions transition validator through API

Hi, I want to set some transition validators using Jira Expressions.

Currently I'm doing it with a an add-on, which is in trial period.
I guess when the trial is over, if we decide not to switch to the paid version, the validators I set will vanish (if someone has another information, please let me know).

I saw in the Atlassian Documentation that there is a way to analyse and evaluate Jira Expressions through the API , but didn't see a way to set a Jira Expression as a validator using the API.

Any advice and guidance on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Gergana.Damyanova ,

As co-founder of a vendor who has an app for this in the marketplace, I really hope your team will go for the paid version. I vaguely remember you saying you're using Cloud Workflows – if that is correct you can also contact the team and me directly if you have any questions or concerns about the app.

That being said, as far as I know your validators will continue to work even after the trial period is over. However, you will definitely loose the ability to edit the underlying expressions or create new validators/conditions with our app. I am not 100% sure, but reasonably sure that this the same for the other apps in the marketplace.

As for using an API: Unfortunately, there is no REST API endpoint to create or edit arbitrary Jira Expression-based conditions/validators. Currently, you'll need an app for this – either one from the marketplace or something you develop and maintain yourself.

Hope that helps,
 Oliver

Thank you very much for the elaborate response, @Oliver Siebenmarck _Polymetis Apps_ !

You are the best person to answer my first question, I feel really lucky now.

You remember correctly, I am indeed using Cloud Workflows at the moment and from what I've seen it's really easy to use and does the job well.

As much as I'm pleased with it, whether we switch to the paid version or not, will depend on the use cases we'll have. Until now the request from our Jira users didn't require special scripting and there was just this one unusual request that made us look for an app that will implement the solution. If these continue to appear, switching to the paid version will be completely justified, and I would gladly recommend continuing with Cloud Workflows.

Thanks again!

Cheers,

Gergana
