Separate Sprint from Version

I am on JIRA 4.4.x, which was just recently purchased and installed.

I understand that there is support in JIRA 5 (Greenhopper 5.9+) to separate a sprint from a version.

Our company is humungous, and isn't likely to do an upgrade for sometime.

Is there anyway that we can get the feature of separating sprint from version in Greenhopper 5.8.7 (latest JIRA 4)?

My gut feel would be no. You'd probably have to try take it up direct via support.atlassian.com
