Roadmap in Classic Project (sprints at top of screen not working well)

Deleted user August 10, 2021

We have implemented basic roadmaps in a Jira Classic project.

We used to only see a horizontal bar that represents the time it would take for an Epic based on Start and Due dates.    Now, we are seeing Stories within the Epic lining up with our sprints vertically on the roadmap page as well.   This is great!

We are, however, experiencing a problem where our two week sprints in the past are running together as viewed from the Roadmap header.   Into the future, each 2-week sprint is shown at the header level of the roadmap as a discrete unit, and the stories associated with each of those sprints lines up underneath them.

For past sprints, the cell that represents them in the Roadmap header no longer appear as individual 2-week sprints, and each of the past sprints seems merged with the the other in one big mess.

Can this be fixed?  Is there something we should do that might clarify this?  If I'm mistaken this is a relatively new phenomenon and the sprints used to show with appropriate time boundaries before.

Interestingly, the stories do still line up underneath the header in the appropriate time slots that would have represented the sprint to which they were assigned.  So, this appears to be something that is happening only at the timeline at the top of the Roadmap.

Hello @[deleted] ,

Thanks for reaching out and an initial point to touch on is that you are using the Live Plan view (Legacy interface) that we are in the process of deprecating, covered in full at the following link noting primarily that on July 31st, 2021, we ended support for the legacy Live plans interface in Advanced Roadmaps, and Live plans will be removed from Jira in the next major update to Jira Software, though the exact date is not yet known. When we know the date, we’ll update the notice with the exact dates:

So moving forward the behavior you are looking at will not be updated as it will no longer be available in the near future and we recommend migrating the plan to the new interface as soon as possible.

The Sprint tracking behavior and layout are a bit different in the new interface and I believe the feature that will fit your needs much better will be under the plans "view setting" allowing you to "Group by Sprint"  for a more focused view sprint by sprint in the timeline,  additional details on the setting can be seen here:

Regards,
Earl

Thank you, @Earl McCutcheon   We do not currently have Advanced Roadmaps, and I'd like to just check my understanding of your response above.  Independent of Advanced Roadmaps, the Roadmap functionality we see today in our classic project will indeed disappear, is that correct?  We would need to move to Advanced Roadmaps product to continue to use the visual representation of the epics and stories in the timeline view?
