Hi,
For some unknown reason all my closed sprints have resurfaced to the backlog and I cant close them any more. I have created a separate sprint to accommodate the work items and I try to close them but it keeps on telling me to move the work items to another sprint since they are open- but no, they are closed and they are de-linked from the open work items.
Any help is appreciated as we have lost our sprints now and their reports are messed up now :(.
Thanks,
Anupama
Hello @Anupama Budumooru
Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
Do you mean that closed issues are coming back, or do you really mean that closed sprints are coming back?
A scrum board will consider an issue "closed" only if the Status value of the issue is mapped to the farthest right column of the Scrum board. Has there been a change to the status of the issues or to your Scrum board columns so that the issues' Status is no longer matched to the right-most column?
Yes, I did change the status of the issues, I like added a status. Yes, the closed sprints and issues and the entire list of work items are now in backlog.

Hello @Anupama Budumooru
Please provide some screen images to illustrate the problem.
Show us the configuration for Statuses mapped to Columns on your board.
Show us an example issue that is appearing in the backlog that you think should not be in the backlog.
Show us a closed sprint that is appearing in the backlog that you think should not be in the backlog.
