We are using Epics like column headers with the actual tasks (issues) our developers are working under that.  We would like to restrict the ability to log time against an Epic as some of them are doing so by searching similar naming conventions.  Is it possible to just shut off the ability to log time against Epics?

I was going to say "no, because the permission is project wide", but there is a way to do it

  1. Let your users log work in the permissions
  2. Separate the workflow for Epic and other issues in the project (if they're the same at the moment, copy it, and associate the copy with Epics in the workflow scheme)
  3. Go over each status in the workflow for epics and add a workflow property that reduces the permission for logging time.  See https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver071/workflow-properties-802592825.html
