Repetive Issues with "Deadline"

Moritz
September 16, 2020

Hi Community,

in our company we have repetive tasks. Those tasks need to be done on a monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or yearly basis. Each of these frequencies could have different deadlines.

For example:

Monthly:

  • January 15, February 15, ... , December 15
  • January (last of the month = 31), February 28, ... ,December 31

Quarterly:

  • January 15, April 15,...
  • January (last of the month), ...., December (last of the month)

Half-yearly:

  • January XX , July XX
  • February XX, August XX
  • ...

Yearly:

  • January XX
  • February XX
  • ...

If possible, there should also be an automatic "Starting Date": E.g. 10 days before deadline is due.

Would that be possible?
Thank you for your help.

Moritz

You can implement something like this by creating a workflow that will create a new task of the same type when you complete a task. The start date and due date would be based on a field that would indicate what cadence the task is on (monthly, quarterly, etc).

You will need a plugin that allows you to create new tasks, since that capability is not available out of the box with Jira.

Alternatively, you can look at plugins that will do this for you. Look at https://marketplace.atlassian.com/search?hosting=server&query=recurring%20tasks for a list of plugins that match.

Hi Derek,

thank you for your answer.

The new task should be created, even when the current task is not closed, so I wanted to make it independent of the workflow.

I checked some plug-ins, but it seems it is not possible to set a dynamic end-date for the tasks - only the Creation date can be adjusted.

Kind regards,
Moritz
