Reduce the number of users in a cloud backup prior to restore

Hi Jira,

I'd like to restore a backup of our Jira cloud instance to another instance. The current instance is active and in use and has 200 licensed users. The new instance has been created just for training and will have no more than 5 users. I'd like to restore a backup (projects, data, workflows etc) of the current instance into the new training one. However, i'm not able to do this as there are more users in the backup than licenses in the new instance. The users are retained in the backup but not licensed in the new instance.

Is it possible to remove the users from the backup prior to importing it to the new instance.

I not able to reduce/remove the users prior to the backup as it's a live project environment.

I've not done this before, but I did find this answer on another question which might help?

Alternatively - is the new instance still on its free trial? If yes, you could...

• Import the backup as-is (with an increase in licences)
• Revoke access from users who do not need access to the new environment

^ This would then allow the licensed users to be reduced back to 5 once completed, without impacting the site's costs :)

That reference answer looks like the go - i'll give it a try

And will check on the import to a free trial environment too.
