Rectify Burndown Chart

Tamali Basak May 23, 2019

Hi,

I am very new to this community. Recently, I have created a Sprint project in JIRA but burndown chart is not showing the guideline.

The JIRA project was created after the Sprint was started. All tasks were created and Sprint was started. After it was started, I assigned the tasks and put the estimated effort for each task. Did thid cause the issue?

Burndown chart is now awful. How can I correct it now? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks Mikael. I will definitely have a look in that document. If I mark the sprint complete and try to start another one with same set of tasks, hopefully it will allow me and the chart will look better then.

Hi Tamali,

Welcome to the Atlassian Community.

The reason why you do not see the guideline is because you did the estimations after you started the sprint. Normally you estimate your issues when you have your sprint planning, so when you start your sprint all issues should have an estimate already.

Hi Mikael, Thanks for the response. I also doubted the same. But can you please suggest how I can make the turndown chart good now?

I have gone through some blogs and they are suggesting to close the sprint and recreate one. I have never done that before. Not sure if that is the right way and nothing else will be impacted. Can you please suggest?

The only way to correct it is to close the sprint and start with a new one. I would also recommend looking at the Get started guide that you can find here, https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRASOFTWARECLOUD/Jira+Software+documentation (currently Atlassian is doing maintenance on it so if it does not work, just check back later).
