RapidBoard gets slower and slower throughout sprint planning

Ian Mellor May 12, 2020

Throughout the sprint planning meeting the RapidBoard gets slower and slower to load issue summaries. My colleagues usually blame my laptop, my browser, my OS, because when they click on issues the summary loads instantly on the right - but for me it takes several seconds of watching the spinning loading icon. So I start a different browser, and it feels like the new browser is better - but slowly it gets worse.

So, I spent a little time watching the network and what I found was that the first time I click (on a biggish issue with links to others and times recorded) that it takes less than 2000ms to load - which feels natural in the flow of the meeting. If I carry on clicking on that same issue very soon it starts to take longer and seems to top out at about 8000ms which is way too long for us humans to wait for. Meanwhile my laptop fan kicks in. Reloading the board "fixes" the issue, but that takes about 8 seconds, which is acceptable for the first load but not to do regularly so isn't really practical. The board is responsive enough for the first 20 or so issues I click on, but from then on gets steadily worse.

I got one of the team to reproduce on Mac+Firebird as I'm using Linux+Chrome, and they had the same problem! It turns out he always clicks out of the board into individual issues during the meeting so he is naturally "fixing" it regularly, whereas I'm stuck scrolling up and down the board doing the planning.

Is there another fix apart from just reloading the board regularly?
