Hello - I am wondering if there is a way to pull a big list of existing stories that's currently on an Excel file on JIRA so that I can bulk change the status all at once instead of searching the issue key/story one by one and manually updating its status.

Hello @CKEI

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

If you

  1. can construct a filter in Jira to select the issues you want to update all to the same new Status, and
  2. also build into that filter selection criteria to ensure you are getting issue types that use the same workflow, and
  3. have permissions to make Bulk Changes, and
  4. there is a valid transition path from the starting status to the new status

...then you can use the Bulk Change option from the View all issues screen.

After constructing and executing the appropriate filter select the Bulk change option

In the second step of Bulk Change choose Transition Issues

In the next step you get to choose the new Status to assign to the issues. The screen will be subdivided to group issues based on the workflows that they use, but in each workflow grouping you can choose only one new Status to apply to all the issues that use that workflow.

Because of that I recommend that you create your search filter to select issues only from one workflow and where you want to transition them all to the same new Status.

Note that there is no "undo" button for this process, so you should be very careful that you have gotten exactly the issues you want from your search.

Workflow transitions may have conditions and validators within them that limit the ability to transition issues. For this reason changing the status via CSV file import is ill advised.
