Project roles getting added to a new project when I don't want them to.

I am in the process of creating a bunch of new Classic Software (Kanban) projects, and each one is getting a few users automatically under People, from specific Project Roles. These are default members of the project roles, but I cannot see why these project roles are being added to each new project (even one where I don't check Share Settings).

The default Permission Scheme where the new projects get added does not show these roles anywhere.

Each project role has "default members"

Go to System administration -> System -> find project roles -> find and edit project roles

You will see "manage default members"
