Hi, community. I'm new to Jira. I created a project and for some reason, I opened the project issues URL in an incognito window. The link opened and did not redirect to the login page. Other URLs like Releases and Pages redirected to the login page when opened the URL in an incognito window/different browser. Though it won't list down the issues or clicking on Create pops up a message that I am "not authorized to perform this operation", it kinda freaked me out the first time (because it's a fresh project and there were actually no issues reported at the time. I thought my project is public). So, is it expected behavior? Or is it a bug in Jira? Thank you.
@Aneesh Bhat Can you check if your project permissions have "Browse Projects" permission granted to "Anyone" group? If that is the case, then project's issues can even be browsed/accessed anonymously i.e. without logging into JIRA.
Hi Taranjeet, thanks for your reply.
In Browse Projects permission Application access is set to Any logged-in user.
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
@Aneesh Bhat If the Browse Projects permission does not have Anyone group set, it means the project is not public. Any logged-in user means only logged in users can browse the project.
In my opinion, this is not a bug, and may be expected behavior. Though you should be able to see Log In link on top right of your JIRA page in order to redirect manually to login page, even if you are not redirected automatically to the login page.
Please check that and let me know if it helps.

@Taranjeet Singh Yeah. There is a sign-in icon on the top right corner. I didn't notice that. It got me confused because other URLs like Releases, Pages, and any other private links are redirected to the login page automatically. But not the Issues URL. Anyways, it's a relief to know the project isn't public.
Thank you.

@Aneesh Bhat It would be great if you could mark my answer as accepted so that other new Jira users in the community can benefit from this information.
Hope it helped resolving your queries.
Thanks!

Aneesh,
Unless the project is public it should prompt for authentication. Did you try opening in a different browser where you are not logged in, instead of just incognito mode?

Hi Brant, thanks for your reply.
Yes. I've opened those links in different browsers: Firefox and Tor Browser on Ubuntu 18.04 (I use Chromium). Though it won't show any issues reported, neither the buttons/links work, I can see the design skeleton. In my opinion, it should just redirect to the login page, if the user is not logged in.
And in Browse Projects permission Application access is set to Any logged-in user. Is this what caused the problem. Maybe it's a silly bug.

Good day Brant,
I have end user who is experiencing the same issue. When the user clicks a link on outlook, it takes the user to the login page instead to go straight to the Project or the dashboard that redirect is for.
I have made the user's browser a default on outlook and i have cleared caches and there is no change. i have checked updates as well but there is nothing suspicious.
Can someone maybe share some light?
