Hello all,
I have a question I'm curious about.
My team has a lot of stories that are depend on others within the sprint to be completed first or tested together.
Is there a way, I can have these stories blocked from moving into the next column, until the dependent jira issue(s) are done?
Hello @james gaulden
Welcome to the Atlassian community.
Natively Jira Server/DC does not have functionality to support that.
How are you specifying the dependency between the issues? Are you using issue linking?
It may be possible to support this if you are open to using a third party app that will extend the types of Conditions/Validators that can be added to Workflow Transitions.
There is a built-in function for this if your dependencies are all represented as sub-tasks. But that's often not the case (and often not the right way to represent dependencies)

unfortunately, my area will not allow sub-task, bc that would elevated this. I do not think there is a way to perform this off just the columns itself in a sprint board

What can be done depends on how you are representing dependencies between issues.
As I said, natively there is not functionality to support this, but a third party app might help.
Would you consider paying for a third party app to achieve this requirement?
