Hello @Ramesh Krishnan

Can you please show us the script you created?

Is Saga another work item type? Has the work item type hierarchy been modified in your environment so that Epics are child items under Sagas?

Assuming the above is the case (Sagas are work items that are parents to Epics), you could use an Automation rule to copy the Goal from the Saga to the Epic when the Epics is created.

However, you need to think about other scenarios that could impact what the Goal value should be:

  1. What if the Epic is removed from the Saga?
  2. What if the Epic is added to a Saga after the Epic has been created?
  3. What if the Goal value in the Saga is changed?
  4. What if the Goal value in the Epic is manually changed?

You may want to review this great article from @Bill Sheboy that talks about synching (and summing) information between parent and child work items.

Hi @Ramesh Krishnan

Yes, and...to the suggestions from @Trudy Claspill

Do you mean the Goals from Atlas / Atlassian Home?

If so, those cannot be set in automation rules yet as there is no pubic REST API endpoint supporting them (and thus rules have no action for them).  Here are the suggestions to add those features:

Kind regards,
Bill

That's what I get for not testing the rule. The correct field would be "Goals" (plural). In my example I found "Goal" which is not the same field

As @Bill Sheboy correctly noted, it is not possible to set the Goals field in Automation.

Hi @Ramesh Krishnan ,

Can you maybe explain what "Saga" is? Are you referring to a Jira space name or something else?

Linking Goals and Jira is relatively simple > here's the official article about it: Link work to goals on a work item
Here's one more support article related to the topic: Understand how Jira works with goals and projects in Atlassian Home

Are you a Jira or Organization admin in your company? If not, have you tried reaching out to them to see if they can help you troubleshoot this? 👀

Cheers,
Tobi
