While planning the next sprint, we found ourselves wanting to check that contributors weren't over-committing. To do so, we searched in vain for a view that shows "select task.person, sum(task.estimated_time) where task.sprint=this_sprint group by task.person".
I did spend a bit of time searching here for an answer, but if it's there, I wasn't using the right words.

Yes - we struggle with the same thing, the problem is a jira item is not tagged with the sprint until it is an active sprint from what I could see. So you have to open the sprint to check the resource commitment.
Still using spreadsheets for this ...

That link does not work, however, there is no way to do this.
I am hoping someone at some stage in the future rights a plugin to do this, since like you say all the data is in the database.
