Permission to change status of epic without changing backlog ranking in Kanban board?

Hello all,

in our team we use the backlog in Jira to rank epics according to a prioritization.

We represent this backlog as a list and as a Kanban board.

The Kanban Board should be used to let the users change the status of the Epics (for example from "Ready" to "Done"). However, these users should not have the permission to change the backlog ranking.

However, if the users have the permission to change the status of the epics within the Kanban board, then they can also change the backlog ranking at the same time (with "Edit issues") by pulling an issue from one column to another. In that case it occasionally happens, that a user changes the original ranking.

Is it somehow possible to separate these two permissions?

I hope I have expressed myself understandably.

Thanks a lot for the help!

Hello @David D

Welcome to the community.

I don't have a Jira Server/DC system to test this, but according to the following issue the ability to Rank an issue depends on the Schedule Issue permission. Perhaps if you remove that permission from the users that will prevent them from changing the rank.
