Our Jira SQL server instance crashed we have a JiraDB SQL Backup, how to restore this

Paul Sjoerdsma July 17, 2020

After an upgrade of SQL server 2012, the master database was corrupt.
We didn't get it to rebuild or restore. We removed the sql instance and installed it again.
We also restored the sql backup and configured Jira.

At first start of Jira, I need to configure everything, including users, this is not what I want or I can import a XML file, which I don't have, because we were making sql-backups (and backups of de jira application data)

Can you help me to get my Jira instalation back to work.

I found the xml file within the backup.

There are a lot of zip files in <jira application data>\export. These contains a file "entities.xml"

Hi @Paul Sjoerdsma ,

It's great that you have a backup under \export. Make sure to keep it safe and also backup your attachments folder (This is not part of the XML backup).

In order to restore this environment you will need to install a fresh new JIRA using same version you were using and restore using the below steps:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/restoring-data-from-an-xml-backup-938847707.html

This is a complex task and I recommend you to get in touch with an Atlassian Partner to assist you with this task and minimize your downtime.
