NullPointerException for Cascading Select

I have a Cascading Select field which is set to Mandatory. This is done via Behaviuorplugin. This works fine when I set some value to it.

But if I set the parent option to 'None' i.e. blank option, I get the error "Exception occured: java.lang.NullPointerException".

Has anybody seen this happening?
