Not able to see workflow I've edit from project

bcdubs July 12, 2024

I edited my project workflow from the sprint board and updated it, I made changes including adding different categories as you can see 'on staging' below on the board that is successfully updated.

I went to Issues > workflows and it's not listed in inactive or active, and none of the workflows here including if the categories I added.

You can see it says not in use for projects in all of them.

This really is such a confusing mess for something that underpins everything in Jira, I'm going to try an associate a workflow with my project and hopefully it won't update and overwrite all of my hard work.

different.pngNow I'm using the workflow creator from issues -> workflows and it's completely different from the one I used from board -> manage workflow

The labels look different is this a different thing? It seems to do have the same function? Surely it's not possible that they have some sort of overlap here and when I manage my workspace under the project it used some sort of old version?

What earth is going on

In the text view there's a way to add a 'Step' but it can only be associated with 'statuses' which  don't include the other statuses I've created in the workflow. Which is really confusing... And there's no way to add statuses....addstepmess.png

Then when I click on the diagram view there's no way to add a step at all, but I can add statuses, but when I add a status it creates a step with the same name!

Not exactly what I would call an intuitive interface, I'm sure some people have figured out how to use this and I'm about to read two or three pages worth of documentation in order to try and understand this.

... just found this: surely it's not this issue from four years ago, I just created my project today from a fresh account...

Finally figured out this cryptic mess it was because I was in a Team Managed Project. It was for some reason showing me all of the Company Managed Project settings as if I could use them but of course I couldn't, all it was ever going to do was confuse an irritate.

If you want to manage workflow for a project outside of the 'manage workflow' that you might stumble upon if you're clicking around all the buttons on the Board page, (Not where you would start looking for it, it's on the right in the [...] button dropdown) you can't.
The only thing you can do is create an entirely new project that is a Company Managed Project.

Now I understand why people say they hate Jira.
