I just created a Jira cloud instance to explore Jira and its features. I created one team managed Scrum project in JIRA and imported some issues using .csv. It all worked well and I can see the items in the project.
I am trying to update story point (using Story Point Estimate field) in the Backlog view and it says "Failed to update" -The items may not be editable.
I created a new item using Create button and added User story Estimates and it says
"Field 'customfield_10016' cannot be set. It is not on the appropriate screen, or unknown.".
I can see the Story point Estimate field but it is not letting be edit in already created items and not even letting me create a new item with story points.

Hi everyone,
Due to the age of this thread, it has been closed to further replies. Please feel free to start a new thread if you wish to continue to discuss this topic.
Thank you for understanding.
Had the same problem and got past it by removing the field from the Project's field list and re-adding it. Seems to be a glitch in Jira
Go to Project Settings -> Fields. Find 'Story point estimate' field. In the ... menu click 'remove field'
Add field back with 'Add Field' at top right corner
Configure the 'work type' again to introduce the field into the 'Context fields' list.
And voila it starts working now!
(just took 2 hours to fix!)

Hi @Raman Verma -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
Please post images of the screen and errors you see for the team-managed project when:
Until we see those images for context...
For a team-managed project, the story points may be set / updated in the backlog view by selecting the number value to change it.
And for the create issue view, the project admin may adjust the fields on the create issue view from the ... menu > show fields > and select the story point estimate field.
Kind regards,
Bill

Thanks for the reply, Bill.
1. Try to add Story point estimate using the backlog view
2. Getting this error
3. Click on Story link to open it and don't see Story Point Estimate Field.
4. Click on Configure and can see Story Point Estimate
5. Create a new Issue and add story point estimate gives this error

Thanks for those images!
The problem is someone removed (or did not add) the Story Point Estimate field for the issue types involved.
To solve this as a Project Admin:

Thanks for the reply. But as per the images shared above, I do see the Story Point Estimate is already added to "Context Fields" for all the needed Issue Types.
And searching again on the right side won't give any result since it is already added.
I have also attached the images that show the field but giving me some errors on clicking the create button.

There does appear to be a configuration problem with the project. As the field is on the page, that is not the cause...unless there is a duplicated field.
I recommend working with your Jira Site Admin to contact Atlassian Support to take a look: https://support.atlassian.com/contact/#/
When you hear back from them, please post what you learn to benefit the community.

Hi @Raman Verma ,
Do you have the field in the 'edit' screen? https://support.atlassian.com/jira-cloud-administration/docs/manage-issue-screens/

Hi,
Nope. There is no "Edit" screen but I also don't see the field when I click the item. I see other fields but not his one.
