Newly Created Jira cards, regardless of the sprint I create them in, automatically go to backlog

When creating new Jira cards I will sometimes like to create a card directly in the Sprint it will be completed in. Recently however in a board I have recently taken over the card, regardless of what Sprint it is created in, will automatically get sent to the backlog. Is there a way to turn off this feature as it is rather annoying to have to drag and drop everything when I could just create it directly in the sprint.

Thanks!

Hello @Jason Bengtson

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

What is the project type of GEN project? You can get that information from the Type column on the View All Projects page under the Projects menu.

You said that you can drag issues from the backlog into sprints, so that indicates that you have adequate permissions to add issues to sprints.

There may be an automation rule that is causing the issues to be moved from the sprint into the backlog. If you review the History information for the newly created issue, does it show the Sprint field being set and then cleared?
